Veteran journalist with more than four decades of experience as a reporter, foreign correspondent, editor and manager at The Associated Press. Led coverage of the 1982 war in Lebanon, the Palestinian uprising in the West Bank and Gaza Strip 1987-88, the U.S. landing in Somalia 1993 and the Islamic revolution in Iran 1979. As deputy International Editor from 1999 to 2009, oversaw correspondents in the field and a team of journalists editing international stories for American newspapers and online, including major breaking news from Iraq and Afghanistan. As a manager, pioneered multi-format coverage that added television to AP’s toolkit and trained staff in Bangkok, Mexico City, London and Cuba as part of a regionalization initiative, 2009.
